Ban Nongphodphet Wittiya School, Korat, C. Thailand A 90 minute drive outside the city of Korat, the regional capital of Isaan and at the end of 5 miles of a bumpy, dirt road is the tiny school of Ban Nongphodphet Wittiya. The new Principal is an old friend of GHF and invited us to visit recently. The whole village, including parents and grandparents came out to welcome us with traditional Isaan dancing. For many, it was the first time for them to meet "falangs" (foreigners). This area is very poor & the school is an old beat-up building. 95 students attend here under the age of 10. GHF made a donation of 20,000thai baht for a new computer and we hope to do more in the future. Thung Pho Wittiya School, PhangNga, S. Thailand Thung Pho Wittiya School is a 1 hour drive north of the holiday island of Phuket. Although close to the area hit by the tsunami in 2004, this part of Thailand did not receive any aid or financial support after the disaster. GHF has been helping this school of 825 students for the last 3 years. We provide 15 high school scholarships and currently sponsor one student in University. Thanks to a donation from Svetalana Kostromitina and Absolute Group we will be sponsoring 3 more university students this year from Thung Pho. Most students families are very poor yet the students are very bright and outgoing and we enjoy helping them. ![]() Khamtelesor High School, Korat, C. Thailand Khamtelesor is a large school on the outskirts of Korat, Isaan. GHF currently supports 61 students at this school. Most of the families are either laborers or farmers. On this visit we interviewed 4 outstanding students for our university scholarship. These included Mr. Kraisorn Prasert who recently received an national student award from the Thai Prime Minister. However, we awarded the scholarship to Ms. Nareerat Taisoon. A wonderfully bright, articulate student who maintains a GPA of 3.82 although she comes from a very poor, single parent family. ![]() Non Thai Kuru Uppathum 2 School, Korat, C. Thailand Located an hour outside Korat, GHF has supported students at Non-Thai for 8 years. As with most schools we support, families here are very poor and are either laborers or farmers. The land in this area is very dry and farming is a very tough way to earn a living. ![]() GHF currently provides 70 high school scholarships and 10 elementary school scholarships at Non-Thai . We also sponsor 5 school graduates in university. This year we interviewed 3 more outstanding candidates for an additional GHF University scholarship. We always enjoy visiting our students, teachers and friends at Non-Thai School and are pleased to be able to continue supporting them. |
